Key Points – First Aid for Schools

First Aid Qualification Carry out a First Aid Risk Assessment. This should be written by a competent person who has attended a course, such as “IOSH – Managing Safely”

First Aid Qualification Ensure you have an Appointed Person to maintain your First Aid Kits, and trained employees.

First Aid Qualification  First Aid Policy / Procedure. This could include a list of first aiders, and their responsibilities.

First Aid Qualification Ensure you have adequate provisions for the Adults at your School. This includes, staff, visitors, contractors and Pupils.  We have written a guide on this for you. First Aid requirements for Adults

First Aid Qualification Ensure you base your First Aid Training based on Risk. Most schools have a mix of High Risk and Low Risk areas. Therefore you may need to have a mix of Level 3 First Aid at Work, and Level 2 Emergency First Aid at Work Qualified staff. For example Admin / Maintenance staff Level 3 trained, and teaching assistants Level 2 trained.

First Aid Qualification If your School has Paediatrics (0 – 8 / Puberty) OFSTED now recommend via Government Guidance that all new Childcare Professionals should have a recognised First Aid Qualification. This includes our Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Qualification. Ensure this is part of your Risk Assessment and First Aid Policy

First Aid Qualification First Aid requirements should also extend to Schools trips. We recommend to have additional trained staff to cover absence.
